Un giocatore particolare è certamente Zak Smith, che di lavoro fa il porno attore giocando nel tempo libero a D&D con le “colleghe di lavoro” e gestendo un blog Old School, “playing D&D with Pornstars”, dal titolo “furbo”che però è tra i migliori in circolazione, rivelandosi molto dotato come blogger e anche come designer, grazie a Vornheim un supplemento, dalla grafica molto carina e retrò, che descrive una città, in stile Weird fantasy, alla China Mieville per intendersi, con una quantità d’idee e spunti notevole, tenuto conto che è un librettino di 64 pagine, dimostrando che le dimensioni non “contano”.
Vornheim è tra i migliori manuali Old School sulla piazza, perchè scritto da un master per altri master, come dimostra la peculiare impaginazione che permette di trovare le informazioni molto velocemente. Non a caso Zak Smith è stato chiamato come consulente dalla Wizards per D&d 5ed.
Quest’anno ha ottenuto un altro grande successo con Red and Pleasant Land, un avventura vincitrice di ben 4 Ennies Awards, il più famoso premio per il gdr, addirittura battendo in una categoria “best Writing” il favorito D&D 5ed.
Zak Sabbath è certamente una delle menti più brillanti del gioco di ruolo e anche uno delle più polemiche come dimostrano i numerosi scontri con l’ambiente indie e con parte di quello “femminista”. Concludo, ritornando su Vin Diesel che non solo gioca a D&D ma è un fottu.. Old Schooler come ha fatto ironicamente notare in quest’intervista:
Domanda: Is it true you’re really into Dungeons and Dragons?
VIN: No. I never play D&D. For some reason, they thought that I played D&D for 20 years. They thought that I spent years playing Barbarians, Witchunters, The Arcanum. They thought I played D&D back in the ’70s when it’s just the basic D&D set. They thought I continued to play D&D when it became Advanced Dungeons and Dragons. They thought I played D&D when there were only three books – the “Player’s Handbook,” the “Monster’s Manual” and the “Dungeon Master’s Guide.” They thought I played D&D as it continued onto the Unearthed Arcanum, Oriental Adventures, Sea Adventures, Wilderness Adventures. THEY thought I played D&D at the time when “Deities and Demigods” was the brand new book. THEY thought I played D&D when I used to get up to a place called The Complete Strategist in New York.
